“I once wanted to become an atheist, but I gave up – they have no holidays.” – Henny Youngman
As per the dictionary an atheist is a person who disbelieves or lacks belief in the existence of God or gods. And it is quite convenient to assume that it’s a sin to be one. Day in and out we meet people inclined towards some or the other religion, faith or idol worshipers but devoid of any inspiration or logic.
All through my existence I have had people tell me how important it is to have a source of motivation in life or in other words, how important it is to be a part of a religious race or congregation to justify your existence and give a meaning to it. But I personally feel alienated to the idea. NO! I am neither an atheist nor a non believer, but I have my own conceptions and logic to this humble existence.
All the more, it amuses me when I ask a believer to justify his/her need to get latched to a notion that they are neither clear about nor aware. The only thing that got them started was the societal practices and blind faith. As debatable as it may seem and as controversial as it may sound, the reality is always dark and razor-sharp.
How difficult is it to understand with all the scientific proof and logic, how life evolved on this planet? Why is it so convenient to believe in someone whose existence is neither known nor verified? What makes us so detached to someone alive and attached to an imaginative form? Why don’t we see our God in our parents who are responsible for our existence and standing in life? And these questions will forever remain unanswered for religion and the business of fear prevail unchallenged.
The world consists of roughly 4200 religions and 320 million Gods as per data available on Google. I wonder what great competition exists among the immortals and how stressful their existence would be. The fact that amuses me is even God (of all religions and faiths) strives on the donations offered by the mortals and is a slave to their fancies. And most importantly, there is no dearth of ignorance as rightly said by Mirza Ghalib,
“I know the truth about the promise of heaven
Still, it’s a nice thought to keep the heart amused.”
As a parting thought, I do not find anything wrong with being a believer or practicing something you believe in. But considering others not aligned to your way of thinking as lost, disillusioned or unworthy of a cause is what I detest. I am not an atheist but I do not worship anyone else other than my parents and mother nature for they are the ones to whom I owe my existence to and are the reason behind my every smile 😀 .
“To you I am an atheist; to God, I am the loyal opposition.” – Woody Allen
